In this video-supported home study course, alcoholism and substance abuse counselors
will learn new cognitive/behavioral skills to help clients more effectively deal
with anger and rage, which are major relapse triggers.
At the end of the course,
counselors will be able to teach clients how to recognize and understand anger as
a process and how to deal more effectively with anger triggers, thereby increasing
the likelihood of enjoying long-term recovery.
The course will include:

A process definition of anger and rage using the Niagara Falls Metaphor.
(2)
An explanation of how anger is expressed in the client's physiology.
(3) A description
of how anger occurs.
(4) A description of the triggers that fire off the anger
process, and how to interrupt them.
(5) A description of the similarity of the
process called anger to the process called relapse.
(6) Euphoric recall in the
anger process.
(7) The nature of compulsion in relationship to anger.
(8) Application
of cue extinction techniques to overcome chronic anger.

(1) Watch the video and complete
the exercises in the video workbook.
(2) Read the manual and complete the open-book
exam.
(3) Document application of the skills learned in the course with 10 clients.*
