Managing Teen Anger and Violence

Course Description:

Sponsored by Transformations Enterprises, this new 15-hour course helps counselors in Illinois learn skills specifically designed to help teenage clients overcome excessive anger, the number one trigger for relapse among teens recovering from chemical dependency. Upon completion of the course, counselors will be able to help teens learn how they can stop the violence once and for all.

The Content of the Course: This course provides chemical dependency counselors with new skills, and will empower them to show teen clients how to:

  1. Complete an honest self-assessment of their anger problem.
  2. Identify anger as a problem and discover how they learned their anger pattern.
  3. Recognize how they have used anger like a drug, in order to feel powerful.
  4. Find new non-violent ways to experience personal power.
  5. Learn to change abusive and violent behaviors.
  6. Set and achieve meaningful goals.
  7. Begin to reorganize their values to support a non-violent lifestyle.
  8. Identify and change negative attitudes and beliefs about themselves and others.
  9. Avoid relapsing back into violent behavior, and back into active chemical use following treatment.
