Relapse Prevention Using Cue Extinction

In this cognitive/behavioral approach to relapse prevention, counselors will learn hands-on cue extinction techniques to help their clients more effectively deal with triggers and avoid relapse. The course will include a process definition of relapse using the "Niagara Falls Metaphor," which compares the relapse process to a trip down the Niagara River and over the Falls. The course will also include:

(1) An explanation and description of relapse cues and triggers.
(2) A description of how relapse occurs.
(3) How to interrupt relapse triggers using cue interruption techniques.
(4) Euphoric recall in the relapse process.
(5) The nature of compulsion in relationship to the relapse process.
(6) Application of cue extinction techniques to extinguish relapse cues.

How to Complete the Course:

Finish at your own pace!
(1) Watch the video and complete the exercises in the video workbook.
(2) Read the manual and complete the open-book exam.
(3) Document application of the skills learned in the course with 10 clients.*
(4) Send completed materials to Transformation Enterprises.
