Westfield is home to several nationally distributed food processing companies, including Welch's.  In addition, a leading fabricating and machining manufacturer, a custom software company, and a hospital are major local employers.  The community has a variety of professional, financial and insurance service businesses. Vineyards, orchards, vegetable and dairy farms populate the township.

A state-of-the-art fiber optic network links Westfield to the ever-expanding global market place.  Video conferencing is available at two locations, and distance learning programs have been developed for medical and professional development.

Education

Westfield Academy and Central School is rated as one of the top schools of it's kind in Western New York. Housing K-12 in one campus, the school has been specifically recognized for its high percentage of students receiving New York State Regents diplomas. Our school prides itself on tailoring educational programs to the abilities and needs of each student. A modern facility expansion and renovation project was completed in 1995 and a major technology project was completed in 1998. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Medical Services

Health care in Westfield centers around Westfield Memorial Hospital, a 32-bed acute care facility. It houses an emergency room, two surgical suites, obstetrics, radiology, laboratory, and physical therapy units. The hospital is affiliated with St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, New York. In addition, surgeons, family practitioners, dentists, and an allergist, dermatologist, optometrist, podiatrist, chiropractor, ENT specialist, and gynecologist also practice in Westfield. A 120-bed nursing home is located a block from the hospital.

Cultural Resources

World-renowned Chautauqua Institution is located just 20 minutes from Westfield. Educational programs, religious study and world-class entertainment are available at the summer community. Summer events range from symphonic, operatic, and ballet performances to top-name entertainers, workshops, lectures and classes. Fredonia State University also offer quality music and theatrical presentations.

Westfield presents an annual Arts & Crafts Festival, the third largest of its kind in New York State. In addition, our professional puppet troupe - Das Puppenspiel - performs throughout the Northeast and Canada. Patterson Library and Gallery offers 38,000 volumes and produces a number of art exhibits and musical recitals through the year. The McClurg Mansion, an 1820's brick house, is operated as a museum by the Chautauqua County Historical Society.

Tourism

Westfield has the largest concentration of antique shops in the area, with 24 shops and an annual antiques show attracting regional dealers.  In addition, wine lovers enjoy our four local wineries, located in the heart of the second largest grape-growing area in the United States. Nearby Chautauqua Institution and area historical sites also offer exciting day trips.

Recreation

The whole family can enjoy the wide array of recreational opportunities available in Westfield. Water ski, boat and fish on Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake. Picturesque Barcelona Harbor offers a small boat harbor and marina. Downhill and cross country ski at Peek 'N Peak Resort and Conference Center and Holiday Valley ski areas. Golf at our two 9-hole public courses. Three 18-hole championship courses are located at Chautauqua Institution and Peek 'N Peak, and other 9 and 18-hole courses are a short drive away.
