Executive Director’s Report -

Pam started her report by reading an excerpt from the Tom Peters book, In Search of Excellence.  In an effort to simplify and fine tune the structure of WDC the following was acknowledged.  Many of our current Board members and Associate members wear “many hats” within the community thus limiting time to work with WDC therefore a draft proposal was handed out detailing a restructuring of the Westfield Development Corporation Board of Directors and Associate Members.  This proposal will be voted on at the November 20th meeting.  If there is anyone that has questions and or comments regarding this document Linda asked that you contact the WDC office. A Spreadsheet was also handed out detailing the WDC’s current projects and is available by contacting the office.

A discussion took place regarding the proposed Board member/Associate member draft with some concerns from attendees.  Mark Beightol asked that before any changes are made to the restructuring of the committees that the existing committees projects be completed.  There was also concern for the Junior Achievement program and Bob Wasko stated that perhaps Better Baked Foods could be the next corporate sponsor.  Doug Richmond reminisced about the history of the WDC organization in respect to Village and Town member representation on the WDC board. A suggestion was made to open the WDC meetings up to the public.  Town and Village board member participation was also discussed and will continue at the next Executive committee meeting.

Pam reminded the group that Wednesday, October 23rd at 7pm at WACS there would be a Public Water meeting.  Tom Kilburn stated that the meeting was to inform the public not only about the quality of the water and the proposed chemical cleaning process but to inform residents of the finances of the Village and the Water Fund balance.

Pam announced that WDC has a new domain name - www.westfielddevelopmentcorporation.com

An announcement is expected in late October regarding the Empire Zone application and we will keep everyone informed as soon as we hear anything.

Committee Reports -

·        Business Advisory – Bob Wasko reported the committee had met and decided to visit additional businesses to continue the survey process.  Follow-up letters were mailed to the businesses that have already been surveyed.  A suggestion that the committee consider visiting the farming community was made from the floor and will be addressed at the next committee meeting.

·        Education committee – Mark Beightol on behalf of the committee sent out an e-mail request to the board asking for a short biography from each board member to incorporate into a new member orientation packet. The committee’s next meeting is Thursday, October 24th at 4pm at C&E and will review
